Computer in Education Research Assignment

The example that I am going to present in which computers were used
for an education purpose is the one in which I participated personally
and I would consider it to be very successful approach. It is a new
concept or you can say that not many people are utilizing this
education via computers. It was computer education with Internet
Traffic School for traffic tickets.

First I will like to share how I came across this idea as I was
totally unaware of it.

I got a speeding traffic ticket and had a court date. On that day I
paid the traffic ticket and I was handed a list of schools which I
could go to for attending traffic school and get the traffic ticket
off my driving record.

As I scanned the list of schools, I turned over the page and I came
across the section which said Internet Traffic School. This
immediately struck me as something which fits me best as regards to
time and ease. Yeah, I am talking Internet Traffic School as the use
of computers in education.

There were 9 chapters in the traffic school course. After each
chapter, there are traffic school quizzes and only if you clear the
traffic school quizzes can you go forward to the next chapter. The
quizzes are very easy as the traffic school questions in the quizzes
have answers in the chapters in bold. But as you go over the chapters
you do not know this and also this forces you to go through the
chapter in order to have the answers. If you do not satisfy the
passing percentage then you can give the quiz again and actually any
number of times. After you finish all the chapters and pass all the
traffic school quizzes of all the chapters then you go to the final
exam.

Here is the best part. The final exam consists of all questions that
were present in the 9 quizzes you took earlier making the whole
process so very easy.

When you pass, your traffic school certificate is waiting for you
online immediately for you to download and the school also emails you
your traffic school certificate to you as a backup. They don't charge
for certificate. Also the whole traffic school course fees charges you
24.95 and you do not have to pay until the chapter two quiz is
cleared. That means the institution is giving you an opportunity to
try hands on your computer to get the hang of it and if you don't like
it you can easily sign out and never come back again. But once you get
the hang of it it is impossible that you are going back on this.

So sitting at home at my own leisure time I learned traffic rules
through my laptop. Using computers like for this actually is a very
interactive kind of learning. I took traffic school earlier and it was
very boring I didn't learn much as it was one day class giving too
much stuff for me to grasp within a period of 7 hours. But getting
traffic rules education through computers through the internet
actually made the whole process fun and I really enjoyed learning so
much at my own pace.

When you log in and you go through each traffic school chapter the
course first of all allots time which you have to spend on each page.
For instance if you try to go to the next page before 5 minutes it
won't let you do that. So you are stuck to read the page. Also since
the traffic school answers are somewhere on the page for the quiz to
follow so it motivates you to read each page of each chapter. Also
each traffic school chapter is very well designed with each page
starting with the material that has to follow so in case later you
want to revert back to a particular rule or situation you can easily
skip pages to the ones you need.

Also each page has real time pictures helping you to explain the rule
for a particular situation. This is very helpful. The internet school
that I took in a class earlier was very hard as it is not easy to
imagine situations in order to understand rules. So providing real
time pictures hastened the learning process and helped me to retain
the rules. One thing I want to mention is that once I went through the
page via picture learning I never had to come back to refer to that
page because I grasped the stuff and retained it till the end quiz. My
learning ability was automatically awakened with this kind of
interaction.

Since there are no time constraints as to what time can you learn it
makes it more interesting. So I can sit in my cozy chair with a cup of
coffee and do it. If I feel I do not want to do it right now I just
log out and the next time I log in I am right at that page where I
logged out. This process was so user friendly and so interactive and
actually it raises the interest of the student. No where in the whole
traffic school course curriculum I remember that I had to skip through
the pages because it was getting boring. It was a fun way to learn and
you definitely learn everything which they have to offer. Actually I
have learned stuff about traffic rules which I did not know earlier.
You have no choice it gets really very interesting and take your
attention.

As regards to disadvantages of this kind of learning I can't even
remember one.

The educational institution which I took this lesson is Internet
Traffic School also known as ITS. The web site address for this
institution is http://www.internettrafficschool.com.

I took this course in April 2004.

I would recommend anyone trying for a traffic school to go through
this kind of learning process. Also even if you do not have a traffic
ticket
in order to take traffic school and you just want to brush up your
skills for driving or update yourself for a particular situation
regarding traffic this is the ideal method. Turn on your computer sign
in and learn.

Well what I can see in future is that once we have computers in cars
installed then this kind of learning is going to get a great boost.

Imagine you are approaching a situation where you are confused as
what's the right thing to do and lets assume you have enough time to
act then you can easily refer by going online through the car computer
and getting the right course of action.

I think this kind of learning is going to catch up a lot in the near
future.
