Opinions/Info on a couple of schools

Opinions/Info on a couple of schools -- Posted by shannonr on 06-27-03 19:01

Hi-Im looking into several distance MBA programs and was looking for
some feedback if anyone has any. Just for background information, I
have been out of college for about 10 years with a Bachelors Degree in
Social Work, started a small business about 4 years ago with little
business background. I have finally have enough staff, my kids are in
school, and I can devote the time I need to pursue this.

I've been looking at programs that offer at least 1 or 2 entrepreneur
electives, less than $25K in cost, 100% distance, nice percentage of
female applicants, and I tend to like what I read about the cohort
system. No GMAT score yet, taking that in the fall.

That being said, I am looking at :

1.)Univ. Of Maryland Univ. Center
2.)Univ. Of Mass Ameherst
3.)Univ of Texas Dallas

My only concern about Maryland is that no GMAT or GRE of any kind is
required which sounds great but sent up some sort of red flag for me?
You do have to take a sort of intro semester if you don't have the GMAT
but I thought it was strange to not require that. Am I crazy?

Also, I am in a suburb of Houston-Univ of Phoenix is very close, I dont
know how that would compare to either of these-I wasn't clear on
whether or not UP was accredited until I found this forum and read some
old threads.

If anyone has any feedback at all, I would love to hear it-I'm pretty
new to this whole procedure.

Shannon

Well I spent several hours last night searching through these posts and
that of another online MBA discussion forum and was able to gather a
tremendous amount of information. That being said, I just got through
looking at Johnnie's list per the above post and found Stephens College
in Missouri. It sounds VERY close to what I am looking for but here is
what it says about the accrediation:

"Stephens’ MBA Program is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission
of the North Central Association"

Is this an RA program then? I don't recognize that name. Also does
anyone know anything about this program?

Thanks again,
Shannon

NorthCentral Association is the regional accreditor in 19 states.

Jonnie's MBA page also shows AACSB accredited schools which are
preferable if one has a desire to teach.

Jonnie's accreditation information and links.
