Re: Why do people use Degree Mills?
Re: Why do people use Degree Mills? -- Posted by Doctor G. on 10-02-03 17:14
I have purchased my degree. Do I feel bad about it? No. I am educated
but at one point in my life I did not possess the title of "Dr." Now I
do. What is the difference between a nationaly accredited doctoral
diploma and my own? Nothing. If my degree is useless, my title proves
not to be, and I'll admit to it any day... no fooling here. If a
traditional degree is useful, then the title is far more useless than
mine. Reason? "Dr." is used for prestige. I am smarter than most
doctors (my sister who is in pursuit of her doctorate) and if I paid a
sorry excuse for a fee to aqcuire my title then wouldn't that prove I
actually am smarter? I have a doctorate of arts in history. Do I know
my history? You bet I do. But my formal education is in accounting.
Gee, I am an accounting student with a doctoral title that most likely
knows more about history than most doctors in the field. I am not a
history teacher nor plan to be one. I don't even want to work in that
field at all. I'd work at Wal-Mart with no problem and still have the
pleasure being listed as doctor "so and so" in the yellow pages.
Are there dishonest people that try to gain employment of higher levels
with this degree? Probably. But am I one of them? Nope. I tell everyone
where my credemtials came from... they really don't care... nor do I.
All I know is I have the legal right to refer to myself as doctor while
continuing education in a totally different field.
Any objectors?
As for "Degree Mill"...
When they become illegal, then this title will effect my acquirement.
In the mean time, talks of degree mills are irrelevent unless you write
the law book.
