CANADA'S SCHOOLS FAIL IMMIGRANTS
How immigrant students are faring is hard to measure precisely because
so little research has been done on the subject. However, several
studies, including two from Alberta and British Columbia, suggest high
school dropout rates for students for whom English is a second
language may be as high as 75 per cent. Particularly at risk are
refugee children.

CANADIAN EMPLOYMENT

CANADIAN STOCKS RISE ON SEPTEMBER JOBS REPORT; SUN LIFE GAINS
Canadian employers added 43,200 workers last month, while economists
surveyed by Bloomberg News forecast an increase of 20,300 jobs. The
country gained 71,800 full-time jobs, the most in five years, and
eliminated 28,600 part-time positions. The hiring dropped the jobless
rate to 7.1 percent, the lowest since July 2001, Statistics Canada
said in Ottawa.

NU PLANS TO SEND 7,000 JOBS TO ASIA BY 2007
Britain's biggest insurer yesterday said that it would move 950 jobs
from Britain to India and Sri Lanka during 2005, with a further 2,350
to be moved offshore during the following two years.

According to Nepal's immigration rules, anyone carrying foreign
currency worth more than $1,000 has to declare the amount. Dewan, who
was flying to Canada via Doha, has been detained for investigation,
the Post said.
