Brigham challenges conventional medical training bias

Brigham challenges conventional medical training bias -- Posted by JD on 10-28-04 04:35

Someone using studies to arrive at common sense finally -- sleep
deprived individuals will of course make mistakes, and it is not
at all clear why one would want one's doctor to be trained to
be tough as a marine instead of trained to be well rested
and thoughtful. The "sleep deprived" training bias has
definitely been a case of abuse of trust. The AMA can raise
limits until a single resident doesn't need to be sleep
deprived, and doctors would still make a decent living,
because they would learn to be more careful and responsible and
trustworthy about such things and would therefore reduce
malpractice suits enough to drive down insurance.
