STUDYING ABROAD: MOST FAVOURED DESTINATION
"More than 200,000 students apply every year. Of these 85,000 are
successful, making India the second highest country in terms of
students studying overseas," the study says.

OFF-CAMPUS JOB LIMITS HURTING FOREIGN STUDENTS
Six out of 10 foreign students say Canada is their top choice for
postsecondary education, but the country risks losing its competitive
edge if it continues restricting international students from working
off-campus, a new study warns.

LEGISLATIONS LOOKS TO KEEP KIDS IN HIGH SCHOOL
The new legislation, expected to be introduced in January 2005, will
hopefully reduce Ontario's dropout rate. The goal is to get the
dropout rate, which is now at 30 per cent, reduced by half. Currently,
Ontario's students are required to stay in school until they are 16,
with fines of up to $200 facing parents who don't enforce their
child's attendance.

ENROLLMENT UP AT CANADIAN SCHOOLS: STUDY
A study finds university enrolment is up by more than 20 per cent in
the last five years.

federal and provincial/territorial governments, and opportunities for
increased participation from cities and communities, large and small,
and from employers and others.

JOB RESTRICTIONS HURT FOREIGN STUDENTS: REPORT
Canada risks losing its international students if the restriction
keeping them from working off-campus is preserved, according to a
study released Tuesday morning.

EMPLOYMENT SOARS, U.S. DOLLAR REELS
Canada's job creation machine churned out 34,300 positions in October,
far outpacing expectations and increasing the odds the Bank of Canada
will continue ratcheting interest rates higher in the weeks ahead.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE STEADY DESPITE JOB GROWTH
The economy created another 34,300 jobs in October but the
unemployment rate remained at 7.1 per cent as more people entered the
labour force, Statistics Canada said Friday.

SCHOOL OR IMMIGRATION? THERE'S NO QUICK-FIX TO DRIVER SHORTAGE
As if the issue isn't confusing enough, last March the Canadian
Trucking Human Resource Council (CTHRC) issued a less than conclusive
report called Profile of Driver Shortage, Driver Turnover, and Demand
Estimates. It found that we'll need an average of 37,300 new drivers
per year from 2002 through 2005.

MANUFACTURERS' HIRING OUTLOOK IMPROVES
Canadian manufacturers this month offered their most optimistic hiring
outlook in six and a half years, Statistics Canada said Thursday.
