DeVry University Announces Texas Expansion; University to Offer Undergraduate and Graduate Degree Programs at New Austin Center

AUSTIN, Texas -- DeVry University, one of North America's leading career-oriented institutions for business, technology and management education, today announced it will expand in Texas with the opening of a new DeVry University Center in Austin.

Approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the new center will begin offering classes in January 2005 at its temporary location at the Stratum Executive Center, located at 11044 Research

Blvd., Suite B-205. The center will operate from its permanent location in Suite B-100 beginning in March.

At the center, DeVry will offer undergraduate degree programs in business administration, technical management and computer information systems, as well as graduate degree programs in business administration, project management and information systems management through its Keller Graduate School of Management. Students looking to change, jump-start or advance their careers can choose accelerated programs to complete an undergraduate degree program in just three years or graduate degree program in as little as 18 months.

"There is a strong demand in Austin for programs that offer convenience, flexibility and the opportunity to learn from faculty with industry experience," said Marie Hallinan, president of DeVry University Houston, who will oversee the opening and operations at the new center. "This is particularly true among working professionals looking to enhance their educational foundations or complete their college degrees to make themselves more marketable in today's economy."

According to Hallinan, DeVry University's degree programs also appeal to those looking to launch their careers. "There are an expanding number of high school graduates and community college students with associate degrees, particularly minorities or first-generation college students, who recognize the need for higher education to open doorways to employment opportunities," she added.

According to the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, over the last decade, Austin developed a skill- and technology-intensive industry that had not previously existed in the region.

"Austin is home to more than 1,000 high-tech companies, including those specializing in computers and peripherals, semiconductors and software development. This creates tremendous demand for a skilled workforce. With DeVry University's career-oriented, technology-grounded programs, graduates will be prepared to meet the continuing needs of these companies," said Hallinan.
