GATE Seeks College Grads Who Want to Teach in Chicago Schools

PR Newswire - September 22, 2004

CHICAGO, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The Golden Apple Teacher Education program (GATE) is now accepting applications from candidates with college degrees who seek to change careers and teach in a Chicago Public School.

The GATE program provides one-year alternative routes to standard Illinois teacher certification for post-college adults, answering Chicago's exceptional need for mature teachers, especially in math and science.

With instruction provided by program partners Concordia University, Elmhurst College, and Saint Xavier University (members of the Associated Colleges of Illinois), as well as Northwestern University, and with mentoring by master teachers who have earned the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching, GATE prepares both elementary school teachers and high school math and science teachers to be successful in high-need schools.

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree and at least a 3.0 grade-point average. Those accepted into the program pay partial tuition, with the remainder subsidized by the Chicago Public Schools.

To apply, or learn more about GATE, see the website at http://www.goldenapple.org/GATE or call 312/407-0006, extension 125.
