STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 2004
Xerox Corporation's (NYSE: XRX) "national leadership" on diversity-related issues has earned it a top spot on DiversityInc magazine's "Top 50 Companies for Diversity" list for the third consecutive year, coming in No. 10 in the 2004 report. Last year Xerox was also ranked No. 10.
Companies were evaluated based on their measurement programs for evaluating diversity success in four key areas: CEO commitment, employee demographics, corporate communications, and supplier diversity. More than 175 companies participated in DiversityInc's fourth annual survey, twice more than last year. The results, announced today at www.DiversityInc.com, will appear in the June/July issue of DiversityInc, a magazine focused on the business benefits of diversity.
In addition to being ranked on the "Top 50" list, Xerox was also named No. 1 on the "Top 10 Companies for GLBT Employees" (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) list; No. 2 on the "Top 10 Companies for African Americans" list; and No. 3 on the "Top 10 Companies for Asian Americans" list.
"Managing diversity is a competitive factor for any business, from sales and marketing to recruiting and retaining the best talent," said Luke Visconti, partner and co-founder of DiversityInc. "Xerox's strong showing in so many categories demonstrates its national leadership in every aspect of managing diversity."
Xerox respects and promotes diversity throughout company policies and practices. The company encourages managers to demonstrate behaviors that foster a diverse culture, including support for Xerox's partnerships with employee "caucus groups" that ensure openness, opportunity and inclusion for the entire Xerox community. Xerox also offers domestic partner benefits, supports a strong supplier diversity program, and offers 150 $1,000 scholarships each year to minority students pursuing college degrees in science, engineering and technology, in addition to other philanthropic efforts.
"Xerox has a consistent tradition of valuing all ways of thinking, cultural differences and new perspectives," noted Philip Harlow, Xerox chief diversity and employee advocacy officer, "and it's a commitment that starts in the CEO's office and permeates all aspects of the company."
Xerox's leadership in diversity has frequently been recognized by external organizations over the years. For example, earlier this year Xerox was ranked by the National Association for Female Executives as one of the "top 30 companies for executive women," named to Hispanic Magazine's "Corporate 100: The One Hundred Companies Providing the Most Opportunities to Hispanics," and placed among the top 10 U.S. companies in the Best of the Best: Corporate Awards for Diversity and Women report, issued by Diversity Best Practices and Business Women's Network.
