MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1999--
Norstan Inc., has completed the first year of a five-year contract with the State of Louisiana to provide videoconferencing technology to state entities.
During the first year, Norstan has installed 23 interactive video systems valued at approximately $1 million. Nineteen of the systems have been installed in distance learning applications in the state's university and college system and the Louisiana Board of Regents, the oversight agency for higher education in Louisiana.
"This is part of a multi-year plan to use technology to provide educational opportunities to the citizens of Louisiana from all of the campuses under the Board of Regents' umbrella," said Michael Abbiatti, Associate Commissioner for Information and Learning Technology for the Louisiana Board of Regents. "Norstan is one of three companies we have selected to help us build the infrastructure that will make the best courses and degree programs available to students statewide. We have been impressed and pleased with Norstan's solutions and their willingness to join our statewide team of educators and support personnel. Our collective mission is to ensure the quality and reliability of our video network in support of the students and faculty."
Norstan's solution includes the design, installation and maintenance of interactive, collaborative, multi-media videoconferencing systems from VTEL Corporation of Austin, Texas. Each system is installed with emphasis on ease-of-use so that the instructor can concentrate on the learning process rather than the technology. The systems connect students and instructor by interactive audio and video with a simple dial-up over the Bell South telephone network
