Bell expands services platform in Ontario - Bell Canada's 40 new communities to its high-speed data services platform in Northwestern Ontario - Company

Bell Canada says it will add 40 new communities to its high-speed data services platform in Northwestern Ontario.

Business owners, health-care workers and public service employees will be able to make use of Internet Protocol-based fax and voice communications, distance learning and advanced data networking, according to the company.

Sixteen communities were originally included in the project, which began in February. Working with partners including FedNor, the federal government's economic development agency in Northern Ontario, Bell will widen its scope and add additional services.

The company recently spent $200 million to convert its switching equipment to digital service and plans to provide current customers with two- or four-party line service with single-line service.
