GlowPoint Announces E-Rate Certification at NECC Conference

Business Wire - June 22, 2004

HILLSIDE, N.J. -- Company Exhibiting Variety of Education Related Video Communication Technologies Now Available at Federally Funded Discounted Rates; Demonstrating Use and Benefits of Video Conferencing in Education Via Live Distance Learning Seminar Series

Glowpoint, Inc., (NASDAQ:GLOW) the nation's first and leading carrier-grade, IP-based video communications service provider, continues to expand its presence in the education market by today announcing at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) that it has become E-Rate certified. GlowPoint is exhibiting a variety of education related video conferencing technologies at the NECC show, being held in New Orleans, Louisiana, June 20-23, 2004. To learn more about GlowPoint, GlowPoint Education and Distance Learning Solutions and the E-Rate Certification program, please visit GlowPoint at booth #911 at the NECC show or online at www.glowpoint.com.

The Education Rate Program, or E-Rate, was created by section 254 (h) of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and allows schools and libraries to qualify for federally funded discounts on a wide variety of telecommunications and Internet related services. GlowPoint services are eligible under the E-Rate program in a variety of categories as a provider of telecommunication services, conferencing services, digital transmission services, distance learning circuits and as a wide area network provider. Schools and libraries can receive over an 80% discount off retail costs of network and video communication services and can easily apply for funding online.

To illustrate how GlowPoint successfully merges the benefits of video conferencing and webcasting in educational or instructional environments, GlowPoint is supporting a series of distance learning seminars taking place at NECC. By connecting remote instructors across the country to large capacity auditoriums in New Orleans, GlowPoint is providing broadcast quality instructional content directly to a classroom environment through its IP-based webcasting service. This content will also be available in an archived format for on-demand viewing over the Internet.

"GlowPoint's ability to provide a converged solution of broadcast quality conferencing and webcasting to the educational community illustrates our leadership position in this category," said David Trachtenberg, CEO, GlowPoint. "Now that GlowPoint is available through the E-Rate program, we hope to make it even more accessible to schools and libraries wishing to bring the power of face-to-face communications into their classrooms."

GlowPoint will also be co-sponsoring a "Birds of a Feather Session" about technology rich classrooms, held on June 22 from 4:45 pm to 5:45 pm in room MCC 261. The event is open to all NECC attendees and will demonstrate how successful global learning communities have used distance learning to come together. The session will focus on videoconferencing as the key technology in distance learning and will review best practices of successful integration technology and classroom integration.

As part of GlowPoint's support of educational technologies, the company recently provided webcasting and videoconferencing services for the Chicago Public School System, connecting more than 100 area schools to a Teen Anti-Violence Summit. Additionally, GlowPoint is currently used to provide face-to-face communications for distance learning programs connecting students, teachers and schools across the country and around the world.
