Polycom Sponsors the First K-12 Interactive Distance Learning Video Conference; Educators Across the World Will Participate in the Inaugural Keystone Conference

Business Wire - October 26, 2004

INDIANAPOLIS -- Polycom(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:PLCM), the world's leading provider of unified collaborative communications solutions for the education market, is serving as a platinum sponsor for the inaugural Keystone Conference, the first nationally accessible, K-12 interactive videoconferencing conference and event, on Oct. 25-26, 2004. The conference, held at University Place Conference Center, is accessible to participants attending in person and through interactive video conferencing, reaching almost 1,000 people in more than 110 locations across the United States, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, New Zealand and Palestine.

"As a partner in this innovative event, we let educators know our commitment to working with them to improve our educational system through the use of interactive distance learning technology," said Craig Lynar, vice president, Polycom solutions marketing.

Educators, policy makers and industry representatives from across the globe will convene in person as well as through interactive video conferencing creating a venue to demonstrate and discuss best practice uses of video conferencing technology. As a platinum sponsor, Polycom demonstrates its dedication to keeping educators informed of emerging technology and how it can be used to motivate and inspire teachers and students to reach beyond the limits of the classroom walls.

"Across the world there is a pent-up longing for a community in which educators can share experiences and challenges of using video conferencing in the K-12 arena," said Marvin Bailey, president of the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration. "With the expanding technology in video conferencing, we are able to connect schools around the world to this one of a kind conference."

Conference attendees will participate through on-site meetings, in remote rooms or in remote regions across the world. On-site attendees will collaborate, network and strategize with interactive videoconferencing (IVC) leaders, while participants attending via video conference are connecting with multiple local and regional participants. These remote attendees will connect using IP (H.323), ISDN (H.320) and Internet 2. The four different tracks, classroom, professional development, content providers and technology are available to both local and remote attendees.

In today's turbulent and budget restrictive times, interactive video holds great promise for expanding educational opportunities when traditional means for doing so are cut off or dwindling. Over the years, Polycom has collaborated with educators to design its interactive two-way distance learning instead of relying solely on engineers in a lab, making its technology truly transparent. Polycom's ClassStation(TM) solutions are easy-to-use, fully integrated packages, allowing instructors to focus on teaching, not technology.
