Hawthorne Police Officer, Mark E. Swatik, Awarded Law School Scholarship

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Mark E. Swatik, a detective with the City of Hawthorne Police Department, has been selected as the recipient of William Howard Taft University's tenth law school scholarship awarded to a member of the law enforcement profession. The University's Juris Doctor Program is a comprehensive, four-year, distance-learning program leading to the California Bar Examination.
David L. Boyd, president of the University, stated that: "The scholarships have been periodically awarded for more than a decade to encourage front-line law enforcement officers to obtain a better understanding of the judicial system. We are pleased to provide this support for the law enforcement community. Mr. Swatik was chosen after a comprehensive review of numerous applications submitted by law enforcement personnel from throughout the United States."
Detective Swatik currently holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Union Institute and a Master of Business Administration degree from Webster University. He has over a decade of law enforcement experience including serving as a defensive tactics instructor, hostage/crisis negotiator, senior property detective and as a robbery/homicide investigator.
