2004 Focus on Leadership: Celebrating Our Value 3uly 16-18, 2004 Denver Marriott City Center, Denver
The 2004 AORN Leadership Conference has been redesigned as a highly interactive event. The weekend of activities begins with a reception at AORN Headquarters on Friday evening. On Saturday and Sunday, the conference will offer inspiring ideas and thought-provoking speakers. Plan to join us in Denver for an exciting weekend of education, networking, and fun.
Public Policy Conference and Advocacy Day Sept 20-21, 2004 Marriott at Metro Center, Washington, DC
This program follows the Business, Educator, Leadership, Entrepreneurial Multispecialty Conference (see page 699). It is the premier opportunity for AORN members to advocate for perioperative nursing. This event also is designed to promote AORN's legislative priorities by allowing members to meet directly with elected representatives in the US Congress. The two-day event features education sessions that focus on effective lobbying, informational displays about public policy, and a trip to Capitol Hill for face-to-face visits with members of Congress and their staff members. On election day, one vote makes a difference. On Advocacy Day, your voice makes a difference.
AORN MULTISPECIALTY CONFERENCES
AORN will hold four multispecialty conferences in 2004. Each conference will have a theme and target multiple specialty areas. Education content for several of the specialty areas will be included in more than one conference. Perioperative nurses will have the opportunity to select the conferences that best meet their educational needs. AMBULATORY/OFFICE-BASED SURGERY Sept 11-12, 2004 Hyatt Regency Columbus Columbus, Ohio
This conference targets ambulatory, ophthalmology, integrated health practices, and rural/small hospital specialties. It also focuses on the needs of RN first assistants (RNFAs) and advanced practice nurses.
BUSINESS, EDUCATOR, LEADERSHIP, ENTREPRENEURIAL Sept 18-19, 2004 Marriott at Metro Center Washington, DC
This conference targets business, industry, consulting, management, and informatics specialists, it also focuses on the needs of nursing leaders, nurse educators, and clinical nurse specialists.
CLINICAL--INPATIENT AND AMBULATORY Oct 16-17, 2004 The Westin Casuarina Las Vegas, Las Vegas
This conference's targeted specialties are orthopedics, cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, RN first assisting, pediatrics, minimally invasive surgery, lasers, and rural/small hospitals. The RNFA Forum will be included in this conference.
TRAUMA Oct 30-31, 2004 Dallas-Addison Marriott by the Galleria, Dallas
This conference targets pediatric, orthopedic, cardiothoracic, and neurosurgery specialties. It also focuses on the needs of RNFAs, nurse educators, and clinical nurse specialists.
CHAPTER ACTIVITY
New York City. March 6-7, 2004. AORN of New York City presents "CNOR Certification Prep Course" at the Hospital for Special Surgery, 535 East 70th St, New York, NY. DISTANCE LEARNING

The Home Studies are available in portable document format to print and complete. Use these programs to earn contact hours and stay abreast of the latest nursing information.
Preparing for the CNOR Examination--online version. This program will alleviate participants' fear of taking the CNOR examination by walking them through the examination's format. Subject areas will be related to clinical situations with which perioperative nurses are familiar. The program also will provide effective test-taking strategies and a framework for participants to develop their own plan for continued examination preparation. RN to Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Nursing. AORN and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) School of Nursing, Denver, offer preferred tuition rates for an online RN to BS program for AORN members. All courses are conducted entirely via the Internet. Nurses can progress from a diploma or associate's degree to a bachelor's degree in nursing. The UCHSC School of Nursing validates students' previous nursing education according to the Colorado Nursing Articulation Model. Approved credits can be applied toward a bachelor's degree. Clinical Educator Certificate Program. This convenient, comprehensive, distance-learning program gives nurse educators the information to develop successful education programs for nurses in their facilities. The program is offered by AORN in collaboration with the UCHSC School of Nursing. Tire three courses, which provide a total of six academic credits, are credentialed at the graduate level but also are applicable to most undergraduate programs. The next offerings are
* June 7, to Aug 13, 2004--Program Development and Evaluation;
* Aug 30, to Dec 17, 2005--Principles of Clinical Teaching and Learning; and
* Jan 24, to May 20, 2005--Business Issues in Clinical Education.

The program is ideal for any perioperative professional with a bachelor's degree in nursing who wants to improve his or her skills in management and leadership with a goal of successfully managing single or multiple perioperative nursing departments. The three courses, which provide a total of 10 academic credits, include

* Aug 30, to Dec 17, 2004--Leadership and Management; and

Ambulatory Surgery Administrator Certificate Program. This six-month online program will be offered twice in 2004. The first program begins May 3-4, with an introductory seminar at the Marriott Courtyard Scottsdale North, Scottsdale, Ariz. The second program begins Sept 13-14, with an introductory seminar at the Hyatt Regency Columbus, Columbus, Ohio. The program will provide the skills and tools needed to manage every aspect of an ambulatory surgery practice, from daily operations to regulatory requirements. After the initial seminar, participants will complete 11 online modules that build on each other,
