Global Crossing and W2COM International Forge Agreement - Company Business and Marketing

Global Crossing Ltd., which is building and offering services over the world's most advanced global IP-based fiber optic network, Tuesday announced that its Carrier Services Division has signed a three-year, multimillion dollar service agreement with W2COM International, a provider of bundled communications solutions. Global Crossing will provide W2COM with a full suite of voice and data products, including network access, private line and Internet Protocol (IP) services. The arrangement will enhance W2COM's ability to provide video and data communication solutions to its business, education and healthcare customers worldwide.
"Increasingly, customers are turning to solution integrators," said Doug Burnside, director of operations for W2COM. "These are the providers who offer network design, hardware, and network access, as well as application and support services. Global Crossing's IP network is a critical component in our total solution approach to video and data communications."
"W2COM is among the leaders in the video/dataconferencing space, a market that will see explosive growth as applications like distance learning and telemedicine become the norm," said Brian V. Fitzpatrick, president of North American Carrier Operations for Global Crossing. "With critical applications such as these, W2COM must provide its customers with a dependable, always-on global network. By partnering with Global Crossing, W2COM is ensuring that its customers have access to the most reliable, advanced, cost-effective network infrastructure available today."
W2COM joins the growing global roster of wholesale customers such as BCE Nexxia, Telstra, Telecom Italia, Americatel, Telecom New Zealand, KDD and Telia North America that are using Global Crossing's 20,000-route-mile fiber optic ring network in the United States. The network connects over 120 major U.S. metropolitan areas and includes a Cisco-powered IP network currently operating at OC-48 -- 2.5 Gbps (gigabits per second). In addition to several layers of OC-48, Global Crossing has lit two OC-192s (20 Gbps) of ring- protected, SONET capacity to its North American Crossing network from coast to coast. Global Crossing will deploy additional OC-192 capacity in the second and third quarters of this year to meet the growing demand for bandwidth.

In the past year and a half, W2COM's revenues have increased 453 percent, the number of employees has increased 630 percent, and major technology partnerships have been formed.
